Introductory Debate
Introductory debate is meant as a class that builds the confidence of first-time debaters and sharpens their foundational skills. We'll go over how to write arguments, how to deliver them convincingly, how to poise yourself in a confident tone, and understand flaws and misconceptions with others' arguments. Although this is an introductory class, each student deserves good coaching, which is why every student will get coaching from students who have qualified to the state, national, but also won various tournaments.
Advanced Debate
Advanced debate is meant to prepare students for the intensive high school circuit. Here, we'll continue to sharpen fundamental skills (such as giving quality speeches and writing good arguments), but we'll also give topic lectures on the topics debated in high school and dwell into more technical styles of debate. Advanced debate is perfect for those who already have some experience with debate and want to further their skills to gain a competitive edge. Furthermore, we will offer preparation tips, seminar lectures that your child can opt into, and complementary preparation.
Speech and Congressional Debate
Speech and Congressional Debate is a class that has a different focus than debate. Rather than trying to beat an opponent and convince a judge, students attempt to convince a wide range of audiences on certain topics. In this class, students learn how to give pre-written speeches and talk fluently on topics that they don't necessarily have that much knowledge on. Finally, this class culminates in a simulation of the US Congress, where students will give speeches on real pieces of legislation and attempt to convince their peers on certain issues. If you want your child to be an exemplary speaker then this is the class for you.
